La Vieja Casa: Breathing New Life into the Old House

La vieja casa—the old house—stands proud but weary, a testament to the love and life that have filled its walls for three generations. Each corner whispers stories of laughter, celebrations, and cherished memories. Once the pride and joy of my father-in-law and mother-in-law, this home now grapples with the disarray that followed my father-in-law’s passing. Yet, amidst the chaos, I can clearly see the traces of love that once thrived here.

I can picture the joyous family dinners, the excitement of birthdays, and the warmth of Christmas gatherings. The heart of the home still echoes in those halls, and I feel a deep longing to restore the vibrancy it once knew. As I move through the rooms, I discover treasures long forgotten—each piece a fragment of the life that unfolded within these walls.

My vision is to bring life back to this house, to honour its history while embarking on a new chapter. I believe the bones of the house are strong; they are ready for transformation and revival. Our plans include expanding upwards, adding another floor and a rooftop deck where laughter and love can once again fill the air.

In this journey, we hope to create a space where everyone feels welcome, a home that embodies the love that once flourished here. I’ve selected a few beautiful pieces and treasures—the relics of faith and comfort, mostly religious icons, along with a couple of raw wood stools and a table. These forgotten gems deserve a chance to shine again.

I've meticulously cleaned and restored these pieces, placing them in our rental house for now, so they can be cherished rather than left to fade into obscurity. I envision these beauties returning to the old house, reclaiming their place in the heart of a home, where they can tell their stories once more.

As we embark on this journey of restoration, I am filled with hope and gratitude. I believe that with each renovation, we can breathe new life into La Vieja Casa.
